  2. How Does America Solve Its “Fake News” Crisis?
    • So if we can’t regulate the “news” or even stop foreign trolls from stirring up Americans, how can we activate the “immune system” of democracy?

    • “There is a massive nation-wide push to swing the pendulum of reading instruction to consist solely of one type of reading? Some call it the “science of reading,” others call it “structured literacy.” They have demonized the term “Balanced Literacy” and advocate fast and hard for solely one-size-fits-all instruction. Worse, the instruction being pushed (that, to be clear, works for SOME students, not all) removes meaning and higher order thinking skills -like considering validity- out of reading, essentially removing the reader from being immersed in the text.
    • In short, parents of school children should listen closely for terms like “science of reading” and “structured literacy,” and parents should raise your voices and require school systems to implement comprehensive literacy instruction that ensure higher order and critical thinking skills are not dropped.” Katie Le
